Economic Restructuring Committee Mission StatementThe Economic Enhancement's mission is to recruit new businesses that will enhance the downtown as a destination for and visitors. Assist the Economic Development Manager in identifying targets and interested parties who might want to open a commercial enterprise, be it a gift shop, restaurant, micro brewery, art gallery, high-end cradt store, book store, home decor store, etc. in Downtown Rochester, East Rochester or Gonic. - Develop downtown business and recruitment plan.
- Initiate redevelopment and improvement concepts for Key areas: Foster’s Block, McDuffee Block, Hoffman’s etc.
- Attract new businesses that will enhance downtown as a destination that attracts Rochester residents and visitors. The retail sector in Rochester has strong net inflows in the following sectors: Grocery, household electronics, and general merchandise. Our weakness lies in apparel and eating & drinking establishments. The outflows are much greater in these areas.
- Work to develop upper floors for office, residential, artist’s lofts, and Bed & Breakfast establishments.
- Assist small business owners and landlords in improving their facades by initiating a loan program with the City of Rochester and local financial institutions.
- Conduct a survey of business and property owners to assess needs and concerns, in addition to gaining economic data regarding our downtown.
- Meet with area business owners to understand their needs and solicit their ideas for downtown revitalization.
