Historical District and Plaque Program |
An important recommendation in the Cecil Report was to establish the downtown as a Historic District. In January 2004, the Historic District Task Force established the Downtown as a Historic District. In March of 2004 the City Council and Mayor appointed a Historic District task Force. This is an instrumental step in preserving our history.
One of the jewels of our city, the Rochester Opera House will be celebrating it’s centennial in 2008. The Opera House has been beautifully restored through the hard work of many volunteers and offers a wide variety of entertainment for the community. It is a cultural asset to our downtown and is an important key to our revitalization efforts.
The Design Committee has been working with the Rochester Historical Society to establish a Plaque Program to highlight our city’s rich history. The plaques will be placed through out the downtown and along the riverfront with historical information about our city. |
