To create a Downtown Facade Improvement Fund- a revolving loand fund for unsecured loans to be directed to a "loan poool' of local banks and credit unions. These unsecured loans may work in tangent with the following goal:
The committee would like to familiarize Downtown merchants and restaurateurs with the "Signage/Facade Grant Program" administered by Karen Pollard, Economic Development Manager; whereby they can apply for a $1,000 grant to rehabilitate their signage, facade (either front or back), hard and soft landscaping, awnings, etc. with a minimum of $5,000 investment. Important to make them aware that they must apply first before they begin any construction or improvement.
The improvements that qualify for the program are the following:
- Façade improvements (painting, awnings, window upgrades, etc.)
- Improving entrances
- New signage and lighting of signage
- Historic restoration of storefronts
- Landscaping (benches, plantings, etc.)
- Expansion of building on main streetscape (covered terrace, glassed in café area, etc.)
 Sign and Facade Grant Program
Rochester recognizes the challenges business face when they want to make important sign and facade improvements. To support the efforts of businesses in the three Downtown Business Districts (Rochester, East Rochester and Gonic), the City is offering technical assistance and a supplemental grant of $1,000 when you invest a minimum of $5,000 in improvements. It is suggested that you consult with the Economic Development Department prior to investing in designs to ensure that proposals meet City design guidelines. To qualify for the grant your application must be reviewed and approved before starting your project.
